Politics has erupted after Congress announces setting up of Indira Gandhi’s statue in Punjab. The Shiromani Akali Dal today told the Congress that Congress should refrain from putting the idol in Punjab on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It may be recalled that Youth Congress Secretary Vijay Agnihotri had announced in Chandigarh on Wednesday that the statue of Indira Gandhi will be set up at the Congress Bhawan in Ludhiana on October 30, during the 33rd anniversary of Indira Gandhi.
In this context, Shiromani Akali Dal spokesperson Virsa Singh Valtoha said that the Congress party’s action to set up an Indira Gandhi statue in the state could deteriorate the peaceful atmosphere of the state. Therefore, Congress should not take any such step. Damdami Taksal Mehta’s head Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma also condemned the Congress’s announcement.
